ILLEGALLY CHARGED

Ordered two books, my account was debited and the books came as usual very late. Then they rant thru another charge for the same amount of money and I owed them nothing, I called the customer service department, waited on hold for an hour and a half, then a woman came on and I told her, she said a supervisor had to talk to me, another wait and she came on, explained it, she said will correct and call me, no call came and the account was debited for the amount, called again the customer service, again same long wait and same talk to supervisor,l she took my bank number to call and said she would call me back in an hour, she never called, never emailed and they have not once responded to anything.

I even sent a letter to the main office almost a month now, telling them the story, and to ask to close my account, again nothing, not one call, not one email and so my bank protested the charge and closed my credit card so they could not do anything else illegally. They did try to run a charge thru but it was rejected and of course they emailed me, I emailed them back and said you give me back my money you took fraudulently and I will be happy to send you a check for this new book that finally came in to be shipped, did I get a response, of course not, this company is absolutely the worst in the world, they don't care about the customer, they need to be investigated.

I have filed complaints with the BBB & FTC plus talked with a lawyer what I can do to them, it has cost me a lot with having to close a credit card because a company doesn't care if they fraudulently charge. what makes me mad is I have been ordering from them for over 20 years, but once I switched to paying in advance it has been a disaster.

Worst Customer Service in the World- Totally Unorganized

This company used to be a decent company many years ago, but somewhere along the way they apparently decided to outsource their customer service to some cheap foreign land. From that point, like many other companies learn, things went down the drain. I have been a "member" of this "club" for about six months and just about everything that can go wrong has. They sometimes don't ship books, sometimes ship books twice, lose records of books being ordered and have generally *** customer service. In addition, the books you get are not regular books but a cheaper print version. Avoid this club at all costs.

I have been a member of Double Day Large Book Club for 10 or more years and for the last year service is worst than terrible. I never get my books on time and most of the time lately not at all!

It does no good to pre-order, you won't get your books. Costumer service is a joke. Who ever is running this company now clearly does not give a ***.

Such a shame was once a good company for the sight impaired to order books-not anymore.

The book keeping records is being done by someone who cannot ad or subtract. $17.99 + $17.99 subtotal is $35.98.

Where did Doubleday come up with $45.65? If you add $6.98 for shipping/processing and $2.69 Tax to subtotal $35.98 it is a total of $45.65. But wait Doubleday has added the $6.98 and $2.69 to $45.65 .... charging the shipping and tax twice.

I had a credit of $55.32.

$55.32 credit - $45.65 leaves a credit of $9.67. Doubleday statement has $14.94 due.

What is their customer service number and how do I contact them to cancel my membership. I ordered books from them 2 months ago and I have yet to receive anything.

I've searched their website several times and I can not find a phone number. I no longer wish to be a member of this club an would like a full refund.

Watch them because they Re-new you without asking you

Watch Doubleday and companies like this if you subscribe to them they will automatically renew your subscription with asking you and did not even notify me what they did - I have written to their customer service on line and by mail and they are not even responding to my requests that I do NOT want their book program. As I can see it, they are trying to get me to pay into the program which I no longer want anything to do with mail order books. They or their CS people were sending books to me that I did NOT order and I have been ill so I would have to go down to the Post Office for them to document they were sent back. I just got so fed up with it but they are still throwing charges at me for books I am not aware of. I asked for detailed list but I haven't even heard from them. I believe this company to be UNETHICAL in their book business!#%!!!

Doubleday is a rip off

It has now been 3 weeks since I placed an order still no books but my cc has been charged can't get anyone on the phone nor any answer to emails. They can send ads everyday but that is the only correspondence I receive from them. I make sure now to tell everyone DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE! They will not honor their orders nor do they care about their customers issues. The only response I receive from them is we are having trouble with our site. Well then answer the phone it is normal for all companies to go thru issues when making changes but you stay on top of problems not ignore them

Think before ordering

I ordered 3 books from Doubleday Book Club. This order completed my membership with them. Two weeks later still no books and no answer to emails and when I call customer service you stay on hold for hours. As soon as these books finally show up I am canceling this membership never to do this again. Be warned HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I don't mind waiting for an order but I expect to be contacted if there is a problem however I have not heard from anyone nor can I reach anyone. This is beyond belief. A company that doesn't answer its customer service line?

I cannot access my account on new website

I have tried to access my account to see what my balance is, and when that failed, I tried to contact them as instructed, and could not send the note to them-it said to try again later. I have no phone number to call, because I do not like the new website, and want to cancel my membership. I believe I have some refund coming, but cannot get to speak with anyone-don't know the number, nor use the "Contact Us" part of the site. Since I cannot get to my account, I have no idea what my balance is, though I think I have a credit coming.

I agree with everythin that is being said about this book club. I hate the new web page, they only sent half of my order, you cannot get them on the phone.

I have been dealing with them for years but no more. If anyone have a number for them, please post it.

Pissed Off

When I tried to order books on this site to complete my obiligation, I added my credit card and ordered books. But for some reason the order didn't go thru, I contacted them via e-mail and was told there was no record of my order. I ordered books but paid with pay-pal, when I receive my statement from credit card company the next month they have charged my card $64.00. After getting the credit card company involved and getting my money returned, I receive bill from them for $64.00 stating I owe them. I have never received anything except the books I ordered and paid thru pay pal. I am not paying for books I never received. Plus they seem never to have records of anything but they all of sudden have records...Will never order books from them again.

yesterday I received a book from Doubleday that I did not order- These people are a bunch of crooks. Years ago I was threatened with a collection agency if I did not pay for books I did not order or receive.

This book is going back to the post office today. This company needs to be shut down.

I ended up paying for the books or face a collection problem.

People, cancel your membership and get out of this crooked club.

What is your terms or service.... pay for what you don't order or we will come after you????

Doubleday book club will use your credit card unlawfully!!!!

I have been a member of many many many book clubs. I have never had a problem with Doubleday until now. When you sign up with them, they have a box you can check that says "I am giving permission for this card to be used for all future purchases". I never check this box for any reason. I don't even have my monthly bills taken straight out of my account. I don't trust companies to just use the card *** nilly. Anyway, when I ordered some more books from them they used the credit card that I used like a year ago when I purchesed some books before. Every other time they would send the books and bill me and I would send a check or go online and pay with a credit card. For some reason, they took it upon themselves to use my debit card and it just so happens that I didn't have the money in the bank at the time. So, I was charged overdraft fees by my bank because Doubleday used my debit card without permission. I wrote Doubleday about it and they said the overdraft fees are not their problem. So, beware everyone. If you have to go with a bookclub, do not pick Doubleday.

I noticed that now when you go to any page that has your credit card info it automatically checks that box! You have to uncheck it EVERY time you open that page, even if you go from that screen to another one and then back to it in the same session, it will be checked again! I deleted my credit card info and will close my account as soon as they process (hopefully!) a return for books I didn't order (another story and complaint!) They didn't used to be scam artists, but times have changed!

DoubleDayBookClub

I already paid my DoubleDayBookClub debt. Why did you call me again when I haven't gotten any other correspondence from them. If I still owe them, then why haven't I heard from you before. I don't owe them the money that you are calling me about. I have not received anything from you or DoubleDayBookClub stating that I owe them this money. I got a call on Wednesday, May 14, and they just left a telephone number to call and didn't elaborate on why they were calling me. The person that called never even left their name on my answering machine. Vivienne Innella

I have had something similar happen. I apparently did not reply to a "feature presentation" e-mail that was sent.

Due to this, Doubleday sent me the be books and charged me $44 without my permission. I am now discussing options with my local prosecuting attorney involving credit card fraud, as those charges were not authorized by me.

I am also be harrased by Double day. I ordered by first lot and told them to cancel my account after paying in full.

for some reason they kept on sending books and kept on returning them. they sent me invoices with penalties which I am not going to pay.

they threatning me with a Debt collection agency. I said go ahead but I am not going to pay.

I received a call today from Allied Interstate for Doubleday collections. I called Doubleday and they claim that I opened an account in November of 2001 (which I did and the account was closed) and then opened one again in November of 2006.

I've never received anything from them since 2006 (books or bills), even though after speaking to them, they have my current mailing address. Also, they cannot provide proof that I actually signed up for the account. Allied is even worse.

Supposedly had the account since November of 2008 and are just now calling me to tell me this will be reported to the credit agencies if I don't pay them. UNREAL!

I too am being harrassed by a collection agency for 2 Doubleday books I supposedly purchased in 2003 and it is now Sept. of 2009!!!

They are threatening to place this on my credit bureau and I have no written billing invoices from Doubleday in the mail, and these people somehow are calling my cell numbers, which I sure didn't give Doubleday for any reason.

All this hassle for 2 books from 6 years ago??? No voicemails either, just a number that continues to show up on ID.
